Information Eurovision

Eurovision Song Contest (ESC):
Is an annual music competition organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and open to member countries of the EBU. The contest began in 1956 and takes place in a different European city each year. Each country is represented by an artist or group who competes with a song they have written themselves or with others. The final is usually a large entertainment event with high-produced performances and often with invited guest artists. The contest is very popular in Europe and around the world and usually gathers large viewer numbers. The winning song is chosen by a jury and public voting. Each country has a jury made up of music experts and a public jury made up of viewers who vote via telephone or internet. The points from both jury groups are combined to determine the winner.

Eurovision Song Contest has also a history of being a platform for music from different cultures and genres. The contest has also helped to spread music from Europe around the world.
There have been several countries and artists that have had success in the Eurovision Song Contest over the years. Some of the most successful countries include:

  • Ireland: Ireland has won the contest a record seven times, with their most recent win in 1996.

  • Sweden: Sweden has also won the contest seven times, with their most recent win in 2023.

  • France, Luxembourg, United Kingdom: Each of these countries have won the contest five times.

There have also been several artists who have had success in the contest, including:

  • ABBA: The Swedish group represented their country in 1974 and won the contest with the song "Waterloo". Their win helped to launch their successful career in the music industry.

  • Celine Dion: The Canadian singer represented Switzerland in 1988 with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi" and won the contest. This helped to launch her successful international career.

  • Johnny Logan: The Irish singer has represented his country in the contest twice and won twice, in 1980 and 1987, becoming the only singer to win the contest twice. He also wrote the winning song for Linda Martin in 1992 for Ireland with the song "Why Me?". So, Johnny Logan is the only person to have won the Eurovision Song Contest three times, twice as a performer and once as a songwriter.

Melodifestivalen:
